Most feather meanings are linked to the power of the birds. 

Native Americans:
have used/use feathers in their rituals because the spirit of the bird is represented by the feather. The spirit of the bird is very powerful in purifying our spirit and cleansing our energetic environment. As in smudging waving a feather over a sacred fire of sage with pure intent uplifts the soul and expresses gratitude to bird spirits.
The feather is seen as an embodiment of bird spirit. 
Eagle feathers have special meaning and in the past it was a great honour for warriors to receive an eagle feather, it honoured their bravery and courage. It also indicated nobility of the heart, allowing the warrior to take easily journey, both spiritually and in a life.


Many cultures represent feathers with communication.

Many believe seeing feathers in our daily life is a direct message from a loved ones who have died.

The Celtic goddess Morrigan wore a cloak of feathers, usually raven feathers, as a way to transform into a bird. Legend says her ability to shift into bird form gave her higher reasoning, also a bird's eye view of the spiritual realms. As a bird she could easily travel the earth and spy on people.

Egyptians believe a feather symbolizes the wisdom of the goddess Maat who is a matriarchal figure of truth and justice. During mummification, Anubis and Maat compared the weight of heart against the weight of the feather to determine the purity of the soul, if the heart was light as a feather, the soul was deemed pure and the spirit could move freely into the afterlife.
